The Pressure's Off

Part One
A New Way of Living
April 27, 2003

Two Paths, Two Choices, Two Ways to Live

  1. The Old Way
All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law."
    Galatians 3:10

  2. The New Way
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.
    Ephesians 2:8-9

The Laws Explained

  1. The Old Way: The Law of

  2. The New Way: The Law of

Scripture Passages Tell the Story

Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do
Deuteronomy 29:9

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:48

The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God
Hebrews 7:18-19

By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.
Hebrews 8:13

New Way Challenges

We will need to give up                                    .

It's harder to enjoy God than to enjoy His                                              .
(See Galatians 3:1-3, 4:3,9)

How God Makes "New Living" Possible

A new                                that makes us clean in God's sight

A new                                          that permits no labels

A new                                                         that actually prefers holiness to sin

A new                           to draw near to God
