What Happens to Me When I Die?
December 7, 2003
For all can see that wise
men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to
others.
Psalm 49:10
For if the many died by
the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that
came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
Romans 5:15
There are two kinds of death
"Cursed is the ground because of you; By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return."
Genesis 3:17, 19
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Rev. 20:14-15
Since the children have
flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might
destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--
Hebrews 2:14
And having disarmed the
powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over
them by the cross.
Col. 2:13-15
Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, Hebrews 9:27
We believe that Jesus died
and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have
fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who
are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not
precede those who have fallen asleep.
1 Thess. 4:14-15
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. . . I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
Philip. 1:21,23-24
Because of Christ . . .
. . . death is not to be
Even though I walk through
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Psalm
23:4
. . . there is and for us
Multitudes who sleep in
the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and
everlasting contempt.
Daniel
12:2
After this I looked and
there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every
nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of
the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their
hands. . . These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have
washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Revelation 7:9, 14
