Dying Was His Reason For Living

Part 3: The Resurrection + Q & A

March 21, 2004

Why is the Resurrection so important?

  •      It's part of the                           redemptive

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
    1 Corinthians 15:3-4

  •      Without it our faith is

And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
    1 Corinthians 15:17

  •      Without it our sins are                 forgiven

Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.
    1 Corinthians 15:18

  •      Without it there is no                                                          to our faith

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.
    1 Corinthians 15:19

  •      God provides

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. . . and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
    1 Corinthians 15:20, 5-8

    Questions and Answers

    1. On the cross Jesus tells one of the criminals that he will be in Heaven with him today. Why does the Apostles' Creed say that, after his death, Jesus descended into hell?

    2. What's up with the ugly baby? The Bible doesn't talk about the Devil appearing during Jesus' passion.

    3. The Bible doesn't tell us about all Jesus' interaction with people while carrying the cross -- how did those things get in the movie.

    4. How was it that the same people who welcomed Jesus on Palm Sunday cried "Crucify Him!" just a couple days later?

    5. Some of the scenes looked really posed -- like art. What did Mel Gibson use for those?
