What Does the Bible Say About Marriage?
July 24, 2005
The Bible Has a Lot to Say about Marriage
The Lord God said,
"It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for
him." So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while
he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with
flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man,
and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,' for she was taken out of
man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united
to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both
naked, and they felt no shame.
Genesis
2:18, 21-25
Our Problem -- We God's design
They exchanged the truth
of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the
Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.
Romans
1:25
But I tell you that anyone
who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his
heart.
Matthew 5:27-28
Flee from sexual
immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins
sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple
of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not
your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
So they are no longer two,
but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
Matthew 19:6
For this reason a man will
leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one
flesh.
Genesis 2:24
Marriage should be honored
by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and
all the sexually immoral.
Hebrews 13:4
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
Romans 1:26-28
It's a Good Thing Grace is in Place
Do you not know that the
wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the
sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor
homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers
nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you
were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name
of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
