Becoming a Godly Giver

October 21, 2007

Key word for the day...Becoming

There is a Biblical difference between Tithes and Offerings

My Tithe (literally "my tenth") is given to the local church I call home

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."
Malachi 3:10

My Offerings are financial support for things outside of my tithe (not necessarily within my local church)

God's Word to You on Becoming A Godly Giver

  1. An Act of Worship

A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
    Leviticus 27:30

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
    1 Chronicles:16:29

  2. An Act of Love; not guilt, not control, not obligation, not ______

Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
    2 Corinthians 9:7

  3. A Regular (Disciplined) Event In Your life

On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income.
    1 Corinthians 16:2

  4. A Proportionate Amount

Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.
    Deuteronomy:16:17

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."
    Malachi 3:10

  5. A First Fruit Gift, Not the Leftovers

Bring the best of the first fruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God.
    Exodus 23:19
