When God called Abram (later Abraham), he promised a land that he would show him. Abram went. He settled in the land and God continued to make promises to Abraham. Years later, Abraham’s descendants were enslaved in Egypt. But the land was still promised. In the Exodus, they are freed from Egypt, bound for the Promised Land. After forty years of wandering, they finally arrived back in the land, crossing at Jericho. More years passed, and through conquest of the people who had been living there, the descendants of Abraham created a nation, with borders and boundaries – the land of Israel. Much of the Biblical narrative happens within that territory. Jesus was born, lived, died, rose, and ascended from the same Land we still identify as Israel.
A group that includes several people from Mount Olive will visit that strip of land this summer. In preparation for the trip, we’ll study the promise, history, and prophecy that is connected to the Land. But this class will be good for anyone – so you’re invited!
We’ll look at maps, pictures, videos, and more to study the Land and its features. We’ll explore how and why things happened as they did in the Land. And we’ll look at some of the places that will be visited in the summer.
